Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has warned food delivery workers against any involvement in the supply or transport of narcotic substances.
The Minister said police had received complaints that some online delivery systems were being misused for drug distribution. He said those involved in such illegal activity should stop immediately, failing which they would have to face legal action.
According to the reports, the warning was issued in connection with Operation Toofan, Kerala’s anti-drug enforcement campaign. The Minister also said police have been instructed to monitor such activities closely and take strict action where illegal drug links are found.
Chennithala also referred to complaints that ambulances were being misused for transporting drugs. He said ambulances would also come under closer inspection as part of the anti-drug drive.
The Minister further directed police officers not to accept political recommendations or outside pressure in drug-related cases. He said narcotics cases should be handled strictly according to law.
Awareness programmes are also planned in connection with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26.
